The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons Movie (Widescreen Edition)

I caught The Simpsons Movie this past weekend, and I was expecting good things based on the reviews I’d seen. It ended up being even better than expected, surprisingly enough. Clearly, Matt Groening and company realized there was a lot riding on this flick — people had been looking forward to a Simpsons movie for a number of years so it couldn’t be just so-so. The story is well-structured, and it’s funny throughout. What more could you ask for, really? Well, okay, since you mention it, how about injecting some of that funny back into the weekly TV show? Let’s face it people: the series hasn’t been at its best in quite some time. I stopped watching it in first run around the time it first went into syndication. As soon as I could compare the shows old vs. new, it was immediately clear that the bloom had fallen off the rose.

Anyway, I don’t want to detract from the movie. It’s good so go see it.

Kenny and Luke’s First Birthday Extravaganza!

Here’re those pics I promised from the kids’ first birthday. I tried a little something new this time: I picked up Adobe Photoshop Elements and it has a handy-dandy Flash Gallery feature. Click on the link below to check it out!

What’s Been Going On? (In handy list form)

1) Luke’s walking like a fiend now. Kenny’s a little behind the curve because of his medical problems, but he’s catching up fast (he can pull himself up and walk as long as he’s got a couch or something to hold onto).

2) The boys had their first birthday last weekend. A good time was had by all. I’ll try and get some pics up asap.

3) I saw Rocky Balboa on video. All and all it was a fine way to end the series and was significantly better than I expected it to be.

4) I saw Ratatouille in the theater and it was most excellent. I have a request for writer/director Brad Bird (he also of The Iron Giant and The Incredibles): Don’t ever stop making movies, Mr. Bird.

5) The Mrs. and I saw Ocean’s Thirteen. While it was far from great, it was an enormous improvement over the often embarrassing Ocean’s Twelve.

6) I caught Live Free or Die Hard a week or two ago. It’s cut from pretty much the same template as the first film, but it was solidly plotted, had a good villain (with a suitably nasty scheme) and the acting was uniformly good. Sure, some of the action was a little over-the-top, but I can’t say I didn’t get my money’s worth.

and 7) Work’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride lately.

More later when I can successfully connect two synapses.
