Larceny –George Sherman –1948

These two noirs were decidedly better than Hollow Victory a couple of weeks ago. Both of tautly plotted and well-acted. If I had to give one the edge I’d go with Larceny. The hero in this one is large and in charge from start to finish.
Again, part of the Film Noir Fest.

[Apparently, neither film is currently available on DVD.]
Hollow Triumph (aka The Scar) –Steve Sekely –1948
Daniel Fuchs writer

Takes a ridiculous premise and stretches it to within an inch of its life. Plus, let’s face it, Paul Henreid (aka Victor Lazlo) is no Cagney.
Part of the annual Film Noir festival at the American Cinemateque.

Orgazmo –Trey Parker –1998
Trey Parker writer

Pretty disapointing actually. Orgazmo certainly isn’t on the level of South Park or Team America World Police. The premise is solid but they forgot to put in the jokes. Sadly, the funniest thing in it is the opening theme song.

Sin City –Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller directors –2005

I love Frank Miller’s Sin City comic books. The movie Sin City is the comic books so it stands to reason I would love it too. In fact this is the most startlingly faithful adaptation of anything I’ve ever seen. The fidelity is mind-blowing. Plus the movie is well-cast and visually arresting. Well done indeed.
